10 comic artists draw their famous characters blindfolded

Comic strips aren’t what they used to be. Back in the day, lets say 1940, they were part of the pinnacle of entertainment. Comic strips attracted many devoted fans and some thoroughbred talent. Sometime in 1947, Life Magazine thought it would be fun to put their talent to the test – by having ten well known artists attempt to draw their famous characters blindfolded.

The experiment enlisted the names of Frank King, Milton Caniff, Chester Gould, and many more to recreate the likes of Dick Tracy and Dickie Dugan, all from memory. The results are priceless. Some resemble amorphous blobs with eyelashes and lips while others look like the copy machine simply moved some parts around. Drawing simply on impulse, it truly does showcase the talent of these late, great, artists. I don’t even think I could sign my name blindfolded! Check out the entire collection here.
