11 surreal photographs of radical 1960s furniture design

The prolific duo of artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaulo Ferrari are up to their old tricks again. This time they’re bringing their bold and absurd take on radical Italian furniture designs from the ’60s. ‘1968’ is the latest art book from the Toiletpaper magazine’s founders.

Groovy vintage designs are photographed in Cattelan and Ferrari’s subversive style, involving nonsensical and surrealistic art direction, bright colors, pop art sensibilities and an irreverent sense of humor. Among the designers and design studios featured are Alberto Rosselli, Gianni Pareschi and Umberto Orsoni, Gufram, Libidarch Group, Superstudio and more. ‘1968’ is a playful tribute to an era that was all about breaking rules in creativity.
