If you’re a fellow fan of comics, then the webcomics superstar J. L. Westover needs no introduction. The artist has been creating what he calls the “World’s Sweatiest Comic” and his character Mr Lovenstein has gained quite a cult following on social media.
Part of the appeal of Mr Lovenstein’s stories is the unairbrushed reality he lives in, which varies from painfully hilarious observations to cringeworthy situations, uniting the readers in life’s most relatable experiences.

In a previous interview with Bored Panda, the creator of Mr Lovenstein comics, J. L. Westover, described them as “sad, pathetic, and sarcastic but in a funny way.”
“We seek laughter when we’re suffering,” J. L. Westover told Bored Panda. “I like to explore that suffering and isolate what’s so damn funny about it. Why do we find cringe funny? Why do bad movies make us laugh? I also find life to be utterly absurd and you can show how absurd it is with minimal effort.”

According to J.L. Westover, when someone resonates with his dark humor, for him, it’s the single most gratifying part of creating anything. “It’s hard to speak for my audience, but I think they’re overall lovers of black comedy,” the artist added.
“I could get all philosophical and introspective, but above all else I make jokes, and people like to laugh. Maybe if you scratch below the surface of these morbid cartoon drawings, some are drawn to the tinge of sadness, the absurdism, and the utter silliness of it all,” the artist told us a while back.

There’s no doubt that Mr Lovenstein’s followers love a good dark laugh. His Instagram page boasts 820K devoted followers who recently had another treat from the creator. In his (incredibly sweaty) new book released earlier this year, webcomics superstar J. L. Westover offers up painfully hilarious observations and cringeworthy situations, uniting us all through one of life’s most relatable experiences—failure.
J.L. Westover decided to put together a special collection dedicated to failure, which is one of his favorite subjects. The book titled “Mr. Lovenstein Presents: Failure” features 6” x 6” hardcover collection with over 200 pages of his best comics, including secret panels, some of which were made just for this edition.
