17-year-old artist creates map based on stereotypes of countries

What’s better than A good looking, classic-like map? One that can offend everyone! Martin Vargic is a 17-year-old artist who has created a giant map that is labeled based on stereotypes and pop culture references.

The “Map of Stereotypes” features 1,800 stereotypes and references from different regions and countries. Canada is labeled as Maple Syrup, Japan is Anime and New Zealand is Middle Earth. “I am sure there were people who took offense at the map and misunderstood its main purpose,” he told BuzzFeed. “However, the online response was generally much more positive than I originally expected.”

To create the map, Vargic spent several months researching online forums and TV tropes and conducting interviews to see what stereotypes other people know. Check out the full map here, or order yourself a copy.
