Jay Shaw is a Colorado-based graphic designer whose retro movie posters consistently look like they were made four decades ago. His prolific portfolio consists of designs for mostly independent films, ranging from sci-fi to horror, as well as redesigns for cult cinema classics.
Shaw’s less-is-more style is largely inspired by the mid-century Polish school of design and old-school Eastern European art. These aesthetics are complemented by a striking use of black and white with dashes of earth-toned colors to evoke an authentically vintage look. His bold style reflects the nature of the films he choses to illustrate: experimental and avant-garde. These film posters achieve a signature vision that is dark and wicked, but exquisitely stylized.
