The animated GIF has slowly made its way into mainstream culture as a funny meme as well as art. The art world, though, seems to not really know what to do with it. Nashville-based artist Drew Tyndall has turned these typically stationary-looking drawings into exciting, morphing and moving animations.
The 5 compositions below are incredibly complex with many parts moving in different directions. I like that you know there is a loop, but cannot possibly see where it begins or ends. It is this perpetuality and mystery that make GIFs a psychically engaging art medium.
