For starters, ThoughtCatalog described cats as the “unofficial mascot of the internet.” Some of these cats became the official mascots of cat memes, the unofficial mascots of the internet, in their own right, Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) probably being one of the most popular of the household names. There’s also Lil Bub, Maru, Colonel Meow, Oskar and Klaus, just to mention a few. Cat pictures are also proven to have positive psychological effects on their viewers, and are an effective stress relief and digital therapy. They also relieve the sense of guilt when procrastinating, one study showed.
