Using long exposure photography to create light drawings is not a new process, but this technique is being used in an innovative way by Canadian photographer Stephen Orlando. He is using it to capture the motion patterns behind different water sports. From kayaking, to canoeing, to swimming, the movement patterns are each unique, creating a line drawing that is reminiscent of cursive handwriting.
Adding an additional dimension to the light drawings, Orlando uses programmable LED light sticks which cycle through a rainbow of colors. As a result, the marks change color as they move across the image, showing how the light stick itself changed color over time.
