Barcelona-based artist Alejandra Atarés has created an odd and intriguing set of paintings that pair the back of a female’s head with an intricately patterned background. The figure is centered on the canvas and looking away from the viewer, or perhaps both you and the figure are looking at the same thing.
The reverse portraits from the series titles Retratos embody a sense of fantasy with a dreamlike quality of vivid colors and idyllic settings. Surprisingly, you can tell a great deal about the subjects of these portraits from just the back of their heads.
