According to National Geographic, it’s possible that species extinction is occurring at a rate a thousand times faster because of humans. “Extinction happens when environmental factors or evolutionary problems cause a species to die out. The disappearance of species from Earth is ongoing, and rates have varied over time.” The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species estimated that more than 42,100 species are threatened with extinction. That is 28% of all assessed species. This alarming reality forces us to reflect upon our actions and their consequences for animals and nature.

According to Endangered Species Coalition, there are ways to help protect endangered species and their habitats. One of the most obvious steps is to stop litter, recycle and buy sustainable products. It is also important to be vocal about threatened and endangered species and ask for the implementation of protection measures. Let’s not forget that without them, there would be no us. On a lighter note, there are still many conservation success stories to be celebrated.
