A basket weaver’s approach to “Pimp My Ride”

Weaving rattan is a method that’s often used to make baskets, but a Nigerian weaver applied this technique in an unlikely way. Ojo Obaniyi covered his entire Volkswagon pickup truck with the textured textile surface.

“I wanted to prove a point that it is not only the educated elite that can make positive changes in society,” Obaniyi told Ventures Africa.

Covering surfaces from the steering wheel to the hubcaps, the details are astounding, and the new material addition changes the machine from it’s high-gloss manufactured origins to an organically hand-crafted object. Remarkably, the truck is still functional.
