A Portable Barbecue Grill/Smoker with a Briefcase Form Factor

This seems like such an unlikely object: The Nomad Grill is a portable charcoal-fired barbecue grill with a briefcase form factor.

Made of cast aluminum and weighing 28 pounds, the manufacturer says the multi-layer construction means the outside doesn’t get very hot, so you can set the grill on wooden surfaces.

With one of the grates in place, you can use the Nomad like a smoker, closing the lid and controlling the built-in intake and outtake vents to adjust the airflow.

With the optional second grate in place, you’ve got double the cooking surface area.

When you’re done, you just latch the lid shut, close both vents and the fire snuffs itself out. It reportedly takes 10-20 minutes to cool down to the point where you can stow it. If you empty it of coals entirely, the cooldown takes just minutes.

Open, it’s 20.5″ x 27.5″ x 4.75″. Closed, the dimensions are 20.5″ x 13.5″ x 9.5″.

The Nomad Grill runs $600 including one grate. A second grate will set you back $128.
