Spanning 1750 square feet, the Triple Barn House resides on a piece of rural land in Sonoma, California. Mork Ulnes Architects designed the home as a retreat and cooking laboratory for a chef and her family to gather and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The volume’s rusted triple roof and corten steel siding pay homage to the iron-red rusty clay found on the site and used by local builders and makers.

With views of Sonoma Valley, the home appears to be built into the sloped plot of land, expanding out and over an open carport and entryway.
Despite the residence being used full-time, the home feels like a retreat thanks to its private, nature-surrounded location. Large windows in the living room frame views of Sonoma Valley and daily sunsets making it the perfect spot to sit back and relax.
In addition to the open kitchen, dining room, and living room, the house boasts a private master bedroom, two guest rooms, and an office space.
A winding staircase bisects the open living area as it rises from the lower floor entrance.
The custom kitchen opens out to a large wooden patio that’s protected by a cantilevered eave that helps block some of the hot Sonoma sun.
