Danish global luxury brand Bang & Olufsen found a fitting partner for its first soundbar design in Danish studio NORM Architects, a multi-disciplinary practice well versed in utilizing a minimal amount of material to achieve maximum Scandinavian beauty. Their collaboration has produced the Beosound Stage, Bang & Olufsen first entry into the soundbar category.

Beosound Stage features Dolby Atmos, the multichannel audio that factors in sound directed toward the listener from above, heightening the soundstage to produce a three-dimensional effect.
Framed in natural aluminum, bronze tone aluminum, or smoked oak, the Beosound Stage embodies the furniture-meets-function aesthetic Bang & Olufsen is well acclaimed for, a design highlighted by the unobtrusive integrated sensory control panel gracing the soundbar’s top surface.
Like Apple, Bang & Olufsen prides itself in their manufacturing prowess using both wood and aluminum, a mastery observable in details like the singular seamless piece of forged aluminum used to fashion the frame, or the sleight 2mm gap intentionally created between the frame and the fabric speaker cover, resulting in a pleasing contrast between rigid and soft surfaces.
Five different listening modes are included to customize output according to listener preferences – TV, Music, Movie, Night Listening, or None – while Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth streaming are all supported out of the box.
The smoked oak version of the Beosound Stage borrows a page from the annals of Scandinavian cabinetry making with traditionally crafted dovetail joints joining four pieces into a single frame [shown below].
Christoffer Østergaard Poulsen, Vice President of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen, describes their latest entry into home audio as a stand-alone solution, “We created Beosound Stage as a powerful soundbar that doesn’t rely on a subwoofer or satellites to create an immersive experience,” a claim supported by Bang & Olufsen’s decision to equip their soundbar with eleven individual speaker drivers with their handsome enclosures, each driven by its own 50-watt amplifier, resulting in a 3-channel, fully active, DSP-based loudspeaker.
Whether wall mounted or positioned across a surface, the Beosound Stage is engineered to create convincing three-dimensional sound from a minimal sized component.
The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Stage is scheduled for a late Autumn 2019 release, with the Aluminum and Bronze Tone finishes priced at approximately $1,654 and the Smoked Oak edition carrying a premium, priced at an exchange rate of $2,481.
