A Suspension-Based Twist on the Camping Chair

This must’ve been a fun, and challenging, project to design for. The Stargaze, by outdoor gear manufacturer Nemo Equipment, borrows elements from the hammock, the rocking chair and the folding chair to deliver a different way to sit.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The legs and frame can be used on uneven ground. Two vertical members support a pair of straps that the seat hangs from, allowing you to recline and also to approximate something like rocking, albeit with a higher pivot point than that conferred by a rocking chair.

Still images don’t do a good job of explaining how the chair works, but the video makes it clear:

I was also impressed at how compact the chair is when stowed, and how it looks relatively quick and easy to assemble. I think the designers really earned their pay here.
