Artists are not the only ones who creatively explore faces. Movies and television may not use paintbrushes to communicate facial expression, but they do use camera framing, lighting, acting, and other techniques to create a shot and convey an emotion.
Criterion Collection recently put out a short clip that splices together the facial focus of Hitchcock’s films. Titled ‘Eyes of Hitchcock,’ the short film shows how the actor’s gaze and very subtle movements create the heart-racing feeling of a horror film.
