Of course, maps are practical tools, but they are also a view into a city’s narrative. They are insight into the public story of urban planning and a window into the personal adventures that one might have within the city’s boundaries.
Toronto-based artist, Jazzberry Blue, has abstracted city maps into shapes and patterns. From these brightly colored images, the urban personality of each city is revealed. In some maps we notice a defining landmark such as a river or lake. In other maps we see city blocks on a rigid grid, while others host streets that radiate out from a central point.
