Taking cues from abstract painters, the Los Angeles-based design firm Laundry has created a series of advertisements for The Simpsons that don’t look like anything that we’ve seen before. Pulling together the character’s recognizable features, we see a cloud of Marge’s blue hair float by, swirling fractals of Krusty the Clown, and Homer breaks the time-space continuum by chasing a frosted pink doughnut.
In some shorts, the designers found that by combining many layers of illustration, it “felt very Simpsons-esque” and quirky. They also explored simplicity by abstractly reducing the characters down to very minimal elements.
