Italian painter and installation artist Alberonero presented two-dimensional work layers multicolored squares in Southern Italy, Mazara del Vallo. The artwork is called ‘86+73’ and visually transforms a large white architectural space as a part of Sicily’s Periferica Festival.
‘86+73’ accordingly borders on being three-dimensional, as the geometric shapes stand in stark contrast to the angles of the museum space’s all-white facade. Alberonero’s signature look of colored squares reminds the viewer of the affecting, energetic influence that chromatic interactions can have.
“I want to continue the research about the relation between man and landscape, spaces, buildings, [and] nature, reducing them to chromatic sensations,” the artist explains in his biography.

With the support of Linvea, the leader in the Italian paint industry in the sector, Alberonero made use of over 300 liters of paint in 159 tones. The designer worked with the Viavai Project to curate 86+73. Viavai works to showcase artists who, through their art, speak about the places in which they live. The name of the organization is derived from the Italian ‘via,’ synonymous with the street, and its anagram ‘vai,’ signaling the beginning of a journey. ‘Viavai’ is understood as a passage through places which leaves a trace.
