Alison Moritsugu uses remains of downed trees as canvases for her bucolic oil paintings of the countryside where she imagines that particular part of the tree to have come from. History and themes of environmentalism are brought together in a visually appealing package.
Moritsugu writes in her artist statement, “By exploring idealized views of nature, my work acknowledges our more complex and precarious relationship with the environment.”
