Amazon Rainforest Fire: How Artists Answer

The Amazon rainforest is responsible for 20% of the world’s oxygen. If fires aren’t controlled, the damage could be irrevocable. But how did the Amazon rainforest fires start?

Wildfires often occur in the dry season in Brazil, but this year has been worse than normal. As a matter of fact, the reason seems due to cattle ranchers and loggers who want to clear and utilize the land, emboldened by the country’s pro-business president.

View this post on Instagram Don’t break the heart, don’t burn the tree You need your lungs, you need to breathe Don’t break the heart, don’t burn the tree You call it nature, they call it home Don’t break the heart, don’t burn the tree Please start thinking of more than thee. I am no climate scientist but have enough understanding to realize the stupidity of how burning down the largest rain forest has disastrous effects on our planet‘s ecosystem. I am simply a person who was lucky to grow up in one of the prettiest and richest countries in the world (Austria), and who plans to offer the same beautiful nature to my and your children. And if you too feel that’s important, we should act more resolutely. In a time of crisis it’s impossible to not take a stand because blind inaction tremendously benefits one side. Brazil, the country who happens to call the #Amazon rain forest part of its territory, currently has a president who thinks his policy of burning down one of the most biologically diverse natural habitats in order to build farmland is the right one. Farmland in turn is used as an economic catalyst that should create jobs and bring happiness to the people because in their minds happiness means a cheap steak. As humans we should cultivate a deeper understanding of happiness beyond consumerism. As consumers, we should be mindful of what we buy and learn about the environmental impact of our choices, from weekend plane trips to plastic packaging to air conditioning to beef steaks. Environmental consciousness is not about sacrifice and doing less. It’s about doing more, of the right things. More trees. More local food. More solar power. But you know all that already. So let’s live accordingly. Thank you. – All living and future generations A post shared by flowsofly (@flowsofly) on Aug 22, 2019 at 7:28am PDT
