Animated paintings move creepy portraits of distorted figures

Jon Jacobsen might be Dalí if he had lived long enough to create an animated GIF. His strangely realistic portraits and self-portraits show dispersing, melting and swirling skin in delightful looping animations.

It is difficult to tell if the bodies are forming or dissolving, which adds to their weird mystery. They look like they are battling with a sometimes-visible interior demon who exhausts them in his struggle to assume control of the body. Even the still portraits retain an implied movement. The work represents the fragility of human nature and the unseen forces that impact our mental and physical realities.
