Apply for an MFA in Intermedia and Digital Arts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County

The Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA) MFA at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications from interdisciplinary artists seeking to expand or reinvent their practice. IMDA is a three-year, 60-credit graduate program with private studios in Baltimore’s progressive art community. IMDA faculty are nationally and internationally recognized artists, filmmakers, designers, and scholars with active exhibition and publication records. IDMA offers one-on-one feedback from world-renowned visiting artists, independent teaching opportunities, professional exhibition venues, dedicated fabrication, and media and physical computing labs. 

UMBC is a top-ranked national research university with an inclusive culture that provides students with access to research centers and broad interdisciplinary opportunities. Graduate students are involved in a range of interdisciplinary creative research including work that is socially engaged, community-based, interactive, and made using both cutting-edge and traditional methods and technologies. IMDA alumni present their work at distinguished venues around the world, receive prestigious grants and residency awards, and are academic leaders at internationally recognized art academies and universities.

IMDA visiting artists have included: Janine Antoni, Zoe Beloff, Paul Chan, Annica Cupetelli and Cristobal Mendoza, Paul DeMarinis, Tony Dove, Hasan Elahi, eteam, Karen Finley, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Barbara Hammer, Dana Hoey, Nina Katchadourian, Larry Miller, Alison Knowles, Mark Tribe, Guerrilla Girls, Keith Piper, William Pope.L, Michael Rakowitz, David Rokeby, Paul Rucker, Frances Torres, Mark Tribe, LoVid, Matmos, Fred Wilson, Martha Wilson, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Karen Yasinsky, and The Yes Men.

IMDA offers Graduate Assistantships that include tuition remission, health insurance, and stipends, as well as opportunities for other merit-based financial support.
