Art-Filled Dubai Mansion Designed by Norman Foster Protégé Heads To Auction

A glassy Dubai mega-mansion designed by a protégé of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Norman Foster is going under the hammer next month.

The swanky 23,000-square-foot spread near Jumeirah Beach is headed to auction, with bids accepted between January 10 and January 18, according to Concierge Auctions, which is handling the sale in partnership with Leigh Williamson of Dubai Sotheby’s International Realty and Laura Choueri of Choueri Real Estate. The mansion, dubbed Villa 71, will sell at or above its unpublished reserve price and is expected to bring in starting bids of at least $50 million.

The sleek residence is located in the exclusive Umm Suqeim 1 community. It was conceptualized by Viktor Udzenija, a UAE-based architect who is best known for his work on the Marea New York restaurant in Dubai as well as an 80-story skyscraper known as The Index, also in Dubai.

A walled courtyard includes an installation by Misha Kahn.

Previously on the open market for $125 million, the home is being offered up fully furnished by Abdulla Al Gurg, a board member and former CEO of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group LLC, a major family-owned UAE conglomerate.

“In crafting this home, the vision was driven by Dubai’s demand for exceptional luxury residences amidst its iconic skyline. The result is a bespoke living space that not only impresses but resonates with unique preferences and sustainability priorities,” Udzenija explained in a press statement. “By redefining traditional architectural concepts, ensuring absolute privacy, and seamlessly integrating local cultural elements, we’ve not just built a home; we’ve curated an immersive and cosmopolitan sanctuary, a testament to Dubai’s cosmopolitan allure.”

Inside, you’ll find soaring nine-foot ceilings, massive walls of glass, and tons of artwork from artists that include Ayman Baalbaki, Henri Mège, Pablo Reinoso, and Abdul Qader Al Rais, to name a few. Most notably, there’s an installation in the entrance courtyard by American sculptor Misha Kahn. In addition, the residence is decked out with furnishings from acclaimed designers such as Rick Owens, Pierre Jeanneret, and Pierre Paulin. There are six ensuite bedrooms, a 90-foot swimming pool, and an underground garage for up to 10 vehicles, plus a two-car showroom.

“In the distinctive style synonymous with Concierge Auctions, we specialize in showcasing the world’s most luxurious and unique properties, with Umm Suqeim Villa 71 exemplifying that commitment,” added Charlie Smith at Concierge Auctions. “This exceptional residence, situated along the refined Dubai coastline, which continues to attract the most luxurious homeowners in the world, serves as a testament to the global confidence in our strategic approach to selling and marketing the world’s premier properties.”
