LACMA’s eclectic and cutting-edge Art & Music series, winner of the ASCAP & Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, presents world-renowned performers and composers celebrating the museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
Enjoy a special Art & Music presentation featuring La Marisoul y Son California, featuring La Marisoul Hernandez (from the band La Santa Cecilia). The group comprises Southern California-based traditional Mexican folk artists whose goal is to celebrate the diversity of styles within Mexican folk music. After years of cultivating deep roots in this traditional art form in Veracruz, the ensemble has decided to come together to create new interpretations and original music based on traditional and contemporary art forms. La Marisoul, Federico Zuniga, Victor Murillo, and Jorge Herrera stem from rich Mexican musical traditions rooted in California and Mexico.
Presented in conjunction with Mixpantli: Space, Time, and the Indigenous Origins of Mexico and Mixpantli: Contemporary Echoes.
