Artist creates the alphabet from a to z with a head of long black hair

Who knew that a full head of hair would be such a great typographic medium! New York-undergrad Shurong Diao shaped her friend, Xingpei Wang’s long stands of hair into the lowercase letters of the sans-serif typeface, from a to z.

The inclusion of the figure enhances the image’s dynamism. Either one perceives the posing figure then realizes that her hair is forming a letter, or one perceives the letter only to realize that the letter is attached to a head.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Diao’s hair alphabet creates a conversation between Chinese characters and Roman letters by using the characteristic long black hair of Chinese women to create an ink-like rendering of the Roman alphabet–reminiscent of Chinese characters inked on rice paper.

Her other work is equally as imaginative! Check it out here.
