Expect Nothing, Appreciate Everything, a new series of abstract paintings by Dutch artist Daan Roukens.
Known for his diverse and colorful paintings, Daan Roukens is a Dutch visual artist who simply likes to portray what’s going on in his head in an abstract way. The artist says: “When I experience too much chaos, I let my obsessive perfectionism run free and if that structure becomes too dominant, I will add chaos again. This allows me to connect both and to create a peace of mind, which feels like a sublime experience. I feel the strong need to take the viewer into this process in order to experience the same as I do.”
His artworks aim to question contradictions that he experiences and that most people take for granted. Furthermore, he wants to add a new value to everyday life by changing certain things, which are usually commonplace. The new series ‘Expect nothing, appreciate everything’ comprises a range of abstract paintings characterized by an interaction between straight and spontaneous lines.
