Artist draws inspiration and influence from her mom and grandma, carries on tradition of talent in the family

Vivian McKenna is the embodiment of generations of talent coursing through the bloodlines. From her mom and grandma, she has seen a lot of art growing up. These two women have influenced her since she was a kid.

“Who I am is where I’ve come from,” she said.

She has a pretty simple life, sitting at home quietly when she’s immersed with her work. Her mom and her grandmother looking over her – even when they aren’t there (there are a lot of paintings of her influences in the room).

“My grandmother was made a life member of The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts back in her day because she was such a prolific artist and both she and my mother exhibited at the academy. I just grew up with it.”

Vivian McKenna‘s work is sold and can be viewed at Palmerston North’s Taylor-Jensen Fine Art Gallery.
