Artist explores her childhood memories in history-inspired portraits

Polish fine art photographer Justyna Neryng creates an ongoing photo series called ‘Childhood Lost,’ in which she explores her very own memories of her early years. She captures haunting portraits of her daughter Nell in elegant costumes, inspired by the Golden Age of Dutch paintings, to represent her own childhood fantasies, dreams, and myths.

“I am producing a series of portraits that evoke characters that populate this world we know as childhood,” writes Neryng in her Artist Statement. “By drawing on paintings as inspiration I am hoping to give a timeless feel to the final images. Key to the project is the painstaking styling and prop building, which I am using to evoke these different persona played out by my daughter.”
