Artist punctures photographs in new exhibit to create intriguing, dramatic patterns

Melbourne-based artist Peta Clancy pushes the boundaries of photography in her solo exhibition called “Puncture.” The collection comprises of 4 large-scale voyeuristic and very intimate close-up self-portraits that highlight both the subject and the paper’s fragility and flexibility.

With the use of a need, Clancy punctures her printed photographs and alters both the vibe of the photograph and the texture of the paper. The new markings may make the paper feel rugged and uncomfortable to the touch, but aesthetically add intricate patterns that only a needle can do.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The concept of her work stems from the curiosity on how photography, the oldest form of media used by artists today, can be stretched and transformed into something else. Her Perspex mounted series will be on display at the Linden Projects: Paper exhibition and will showcase other artists’ innovative works on paper.
