Artist removes smartphones from photos, shows our obsession with tech

In a revealing new photo series titled “Removed”, Eric Pickersgill takes a collection of photographs and removes the smartphones and other devices from them. It showcases both how life would look without these devices and shows how preoccupied our society is with gadgets and phones.

The artist was inspired to start this project after sitting in a restaurant in New York and noticing that more than half of the customers were looking at their phones instead of talking to the people with them.

“This phantom limb is used as a way of signaling busyness and unapproachability, while at the same time existing as an addictive force that promotes the splitting of attention between those who are physically with you and those who are not.” the artist said.
