Artist twisted reality through disturbing images of clichéd American photos

Weronika Gesicka is an artist from Poland. Although her main field of practice is photography, she is also a creator of objects and artifacts who frequently collaborates with craftsmen and other artists.

She graduated from the graphics department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Academy of Photography in Włocławek in Poland. She even got a scholarship from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

Her works of late revolve around science and pseudoscience, mnemonics, and various disorders concerning it. A vital characteristic of her art is her penchant for working with archive materials from various sources. Case in point is her recent photographic project, Traces, which features distorted images of corny photographs of what we could see as originally happy people.

She modified these images in various ways that the finish products are wrapped in a new context: our recollections of these people and situations are transformed and gradually blur into a new reality. Be intrigued by more of Gesicka’s works by visiting her website.
