Bored Panda reached out to Corinne, an artist in the DC metro area and a mother of two, known for her whimsical food art creations. She shared insights about her artistic journey, inspirations, and aspirations.
Corinne began creating food art during the early days of the pandemic, explaining that it started “in the early days of the pandemic as a way to make things more whimsical and fun for my kids.” She finds inspiration in making her kids laugh and encouraging them to try new foods through her artistic creations, saying, “I feel inspired to make food art because it makes my kids laugh and try foods they wouldn’t normally be interested in.”

In order to fit her art projects into her kids’ routine, Corinne usually spends their nap time styling and photographing food. As her children have grown older, she enjoys involving them in her projects and encouraging their creativity.
She finds great joy in knowing that her art makes people smile and brightens their day, stating, “It is truly an incredible joy to know that my art makes people smile.” Hearing that she has inspired others, especially children, to create their own food art is particularly exciting for her.

Fruits like dragon fruit, horned melon, and kiwis are some of her favorite pieces to work with, as they already have an alien-like appearance. Corinne also enjoys creating Halloween-themed food art, mentioning that, “My favorite pieces are always the fruits. Things like dragon fruit, horned melon, and kiwis all look so alien already that they always style and photograph well. Of course, the Halloween-themed food is super fun too.”

As for her aspirations, Corinne dreams of compiling her food art pieces in a cohesive way to create a children’s book, saying, “Thank you! It is a dream of mine to be able to compile enough pieces in a cohesive way to create a children’s book.”
Behind her artistic creations is Corinne, a mother of two who loves long walks through haunted houses, root beer floats, and the undead. She encourages people to have fun with their art and reminds them that doing things for enjoyment is never a waste of time. In her words, “Life is short, put eyes on your sandwich! It’s hilarious.”
