Banknote origami creates comical motifs of world leaders

Photographer Philippe Pétremant likes to distort reality. Often inspired by materials we use every day and think nothing of, Pétremant’s new installation entitled ‘The Magnificent Seven’ takes the everyday subject matter of “money” and turns it on its head.

Using different banknotes from all over the world Pétremant employs a sort of incoherent origami, creating droll and often satirical representations of its imagery. Photographed up close, the images take on a more personal feel. It’s as if we’re getting a glimpse into the many faces cast aside by the original artist, in the long process of finding the perfect look. Pétremant’s full collection is on display at Festival Circulation(s) in Parc de Bagatelle in Paris.
