Banksy’s hotel next to West Bank separation wall receives first guests

The West Bank hotel owned by secretive British artist Banksy received its first guests on March 20, two weeks after it was launched without prior announcement.

The guests, who hailed from six countries, were the first to occupy the nine-room Walled-Off Hotel in Bethlehem, which, according to Banksy himself, has the “worst view of any hotel in the world.” All the rooms of the hotel, which stands only 4 meters away from the contentious wall dividing Israel and Palestine, face the Jewish state.

Banksy has for years shown his support for Palestine through his art.

Walled-Off Hotel manager Wissam Salsaa said the hotel adds to Banksy’s support for the Palestinian residents of West Bank.

Everyone that came here thinks this is the most amazing project for letting the voice of the Palestinians be heard,” Salsaa said.

The hotel, which also features artworks by Banksy and encourages art contributions from guests, is nearly fully booked for the next three months, the manager added.
