Symmetry and shadow come together fantastically in artist Anila Quayyum Agha’s new installation.
The Pakistani-American artist explores the relationship between light and cast shadow emitting from a suspended cube adorned with beautiful carved patterns. Titled, “Intersections”, Agha’s installation is leaving admirers in awe at the Rice Gallery.

The work is inspired by Agha’s visit to the Alhambra, an Islamic palace in Granada built in 889. Agha writes, “To my amazement [I] discovered the complex expressions of both wonder and exclusion that have been my experience while growing up.”
