BENT Annexe Is a Modern Addition to a 1960s Home in Melbourne

BENT Architecture was hired by a family of four with two dachshunds who needed more space and longed for the home to reconnect with the outdoor space. The BENT Annexe project included a new addition to the original 1960s home in Melbourne resulting in a light-filled space that’s anything but traditional.

The Annexe was built just under the home’s existing eaves with new spaces added around the original structure, which are all tied together thanks to a continuous roofline.

The living room feels massive with floor-to-ceiling windows and a smaller window next to the fireplace adding an additional focal point to the space.

Every view looks out to the garden making the interior feel even larger. Green spaces were added to both sides of the Annexe creating a courtyard between the old and the new.

The polished concrete floors meet with black brick in the living room that continues out into the garden.

The original home’s rooms were renovated to become bedrooms and a new living area at the front that benefits from the corner windows and fireplace.
