Bizarrely-shaped modern house designed for a pilot mimics environment, boasts Korean architecture

A modern house now stands in the middle of a residential area near Incheon airport and it is not like any other structure in the neighborhood, even in the whole country.

Design and architectural firm Iroje KHM Architects were commissioned by a pilot based in Korea to design a home for him and his family. The design brief was simple: The house must be reflective of the owner and his family’s character and activities they do throughout the day. Thus, the bizarrely-shaped house was formed.

All of its structural characteristics, however, have their very own purpose and important addition to the whole structure. The roof, which looks like wings from afar, directly links the house back to the owner’s profession. Korean architectural elements were also incorporated into the garden, pavilion, and even in the yard. The house is also designed with a walkable landscaped hill to mimic its natural environment.
