American architecture firm Olson Kundig designed a 450 square-foot artist studio at a remote forested ledge overlooking the water in the San Juan Islands.
The wooden cabin essentially consists of a single room and offers flexible space as a painting studio or guest house. The rear of the building nestles gently into the slope, which is bordered by trees and boulders. This part of the house includes a micro kitchen and bathroom. The front protrudes over the slope. A “magical” window offers inspiring views of the water and the islands behind. The restrained design of the cabin merges perfectly into the forested landscape.
