Brightly Colored Tattoos Inspired by Picasso’s Cubism Paintings

Little did Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques know when they started the Cubist movement that, more than 100 years later, its basic principles would trickle down to all art forms, including tattoos. Tattoo artist Mike Boyd uses the bright colors and broken lines of Cubism to create stunning tattoos seemingly inspired by Picasso.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Based out of London, Boyd is constantly traveling to pick up new influences and spread his ink on the skin of clients worldwide. His work ranges from Cubist portraits to depictions of pop-culture icons like David Bowie and C3PO. By bringing a little art historical know-how to his work, he’s put himself in a category of his own.

“I love the strange juxtaposition of angles and colors, and yet it’s still recognizable,” he says. “I like the fact that it… doesn’t quite look right.” In fact, these bold, abstract tattoos force the eye to work, as it follows the broken lines to make out the subject matter.
