It is fascinating to think about an ant as having the same level of texture and detail as a large animal like a dog. Our puny human eyes miss a lot when we get down to a small level so scientist David Phillips is helping us see the fascinating details of everyday insects.
In his new book ‘Art and Architecture of Insects’ Phillips uses an electron microscope to photograph 150 of these fascinating little creatures. He not only helps define details like shapes and textures, but also reveals some aspects that we cannot see with our naked eye like the insects’ molecule-sensing antennae, and their unique wax surface that prevents evaporation.
