Originally a voicemail project created by artist Mohammad Gorjestani as a tribute to Black and Brown victims of police killings, 1-800 Happy Birthday evolved into a large-scale exhibition at arts nonprofit WORTHLESSSTUDIOS’s Brooklyn warehouse. With the participation of the families of Dujuan Armstrong, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, Fred Cox, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant, Xzavier Hill, Donovon Lynch, Sean Monterrosa, Tony Robinson, and Mario Woods, the show aims to honor the lives of those lost too soon.
Located at 7 Knickerbocker Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, 1-800 Happy Birthday closes on January 16. Join us for a series of free public programs during the exhibition’s last few weeks.

This partnership is designed to provide healing resources to Black and Brown people, in relation to the sensitive content of the exhibition.

Healing Walk is a slow and intentional tour of the 1-800 Happy Birthday exhibition with dedicated time for reflection, sharing, and group conversation alongside mental health professionals of color.
