In conjunction with City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907, and in partnership with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, enjoy a selection of films from the dawn of cinema presented at the Academy Museum. Experience magical fantasies and slapstick comedies during June Family Matinees, and hear from Serge Bromberg of Lobster Films ​during a special one-man show featuring astounding early film discoveries.

The Academy Museum is the largest institution in the United States devoted to the arts, sciences and artists of moviemaking. The museum advances the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, programs, collection and these screenings.

Hugo (2011)

Brian Selznick’s award-winning illustrated novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, an adventure about an orphaned boy who befriends the pioneering filmmaker Georges Méliès, became a lavish 3D spectacle under the direction of none other than Martin Scorsese. One of the most visually-stunning 3D features of the digital age, it received 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Directing, and won five, including Best Visual Effects.
