Bernard Pras is a French artist whose works span across multiple art mediums from photography to installation and sculpture. Each of his pieces is one-of-a-kind, not only because they are sculpted from found and recovered objects, but also because they can only be viewed correctly at the right angles. From here, photographs are taken to reveal the imagery intended.
His amazing portraits of pop culture icons like Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Lee, Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Catwoman, or “The Scream” painting were all made in this manner. Brushes and paint are replaced by the recycled objects, and the viewer’s eyes draw up the pictures. The complexity and scope of each piece means that the photographs are the only remaining traces of the ephemeral arrangements, demolished afterwards.
