Jon Hubbard’s studio, thecitygirlfarm, features a community of makers handcrafting sculptural pieces known as ‘Chicken Footstools’ in Kansas City, MO.
Each chicken is one-of-a-kind, unique in posture and personality. They are upholstered to function as footstools. A turned wood egg-shaped core stands on bronze feet and is connected to a bronze beak. Feathers are handcrafted with traditional fiber art techniques- dyeing, felting, spinning, knitting- and are stitched by hand. And a surprise? Their heads bob.
They enjoy the work done each day and the community that is blossoming around both the making and sharing of our chickens. They are a bright spot in the world, bringing forth delight and wonder- reminding us all of where we’ve come from.
