If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson’s dreamy pastel film locations, then you’ll definitely love this café.
Melbourne-based design studio Biasol was commissioned to mimic one of Anderson’s films, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and embed it into the interiors of a coffee shop located in China. The Budapest Café, albeit seemingly off the grid to most, is a whimsical dream right smack in the middle of Chengdu. The owners anticipate an international audience reason why they asked Biasol’s help for the café’s construction.

“Our design draws on filmmaker Wes Anderson’s meticulous, memorable, and magical worlds to create an inviting destination,” Jean-Pierre Biasol, head of Biasol design studio, said about their design. “He tends towards one-point perspectives and peering down from above; gives attention to the edges of a set as much as the middle; and frames stories with proscenium arches.”
Examining The Budapest Café, you can easily see the complementing play of patterns and colors, as well as the integration of easy yet stimulating hues. The zigzag stair is an eye-catcher and the furniture a blend of symmetry and engaging art.
