Classic paintings recreated bring a whole new meaning to scrap booking

Artist Vik Muniz is a master at creating art with unconventional products like trash and old photographs. His new collection centers on recreating some classic paintings and redefining the term scrap booking in the process.

The Brazilian-born artist tackles all kinds of art from abstract paintings to self-portraits. Lately, he’s been reminiscing with the past, and has amassed a small collection of classics reborn – using old magazine scraps. He’s tackled works like ‘Wanderer Above the Sea of Media’ by Caspar David Friedrich, ‘Floor Scrapers’ by Gustave Caillebotte and the very famous ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. This makes me want to dig out those old scrapbooks from grade school. Maybe they’re cooler than I thought.
