CDW Presents

One of the highlights of Clerkenwell Design Week is CDW Presents, site specific installations that will invade all the district. Once Upon A Time in collaboration with UAL, in partnership with Landsdown’s London, takes inspiration from the rich and sometimes dark historical tales of Clerkenwell. For this initiative, CDW have collaborated with Chelsea College of Arts, BA Graphic Design Communication students to create a series of graphic installations as in the picture below.

Decade installations playfully celebrate CDW as the UK’s leading independent design festival whilst help guide visitors across the exhibition route. Each installation will showcase the designers’ individuality and imagination. Using AR technology, Beau Kerouac invites visitors to question how an act of respect; simply making eye contact, can change someone’s day for the better through shared experience. This is Reflect Us made in collaboration with ‘The Big Issue’.

Conversations at Clerkenwell

For CDW’s 10th anniversary, the Talks will take place in the Moth Pavilion designed by architect Pereen d’Avoine from Russian for Fish. Conversations at Clerkenwell will include – for instance – British designer Sebastian Wrong and Erwan Bouroullec, in conjunction with Established and Son’s installation for CDW, discussing how good design can shape the workplace of the future.

The full programme will be announced closer to the show. Talks are ticketed at £5.

Pop-ups, showrooms, workspaces & more

From just 35 exhibiting design brands in 2010 to over 200 in 2018.

This year Established & Sons will take up residency in Fora to launch four new designs including The GRID SOFA by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, the KD TABLE and BEAM TABLE by Konstantin Grcic and the LUCIO CHAIR by Sebastian Wrong. The installation will invite visitors to explore the possibilities of Established & Sons’ new, innovative designs by trying them out with hot-desking, wi-fi and refreshments from Fora’s in-house cafe. The installation will be complemented by a series of talks, workshops and events.

And again, Fritz Hansen’s exhibition in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects and an outdoor cooking space serving food by Kitchen Architecture.

An abundance of new showrooms will arrive in Clerkenwell: to name but a few Optelma, Vescom, Fredericia, Workstories and more.

There are seven exhibitions ranging from cutting edge international design, to emerging talent, lighting, luxury interiors and the best of British design. For more details we invite you to look here.

CDW’s 10th edition is a show full of celebration and achievement. Last year saw the international design community flock to Clerkenwell with 34,060 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands.

What about the new creative campaign and motion graphic? The new identity sees the work of design duo and brothers Cai and Kyn, who created the first ever identity for Clerkenwell Design Week back in 2010. Teaming with illustrator Matt Harrison Clough, and animator Nigel Coan, the identity playfully uses the CDW letters to celebrate Clerkenwell’s cultural landmarks (represented in the C), design products (featured in the D) and CDW’s 10th anniversary (represented in the W) through a series of 10 logos.
