Core77 Crash Course: How to Drive More Sustainable Design Solutions

Our impact on the environment is impossible to ignore, and we as designers should be in a position to make changes for the better. But how, when we need buy-in from others that may not be on the same page? Effecting change is hard; clients and organizations can easily opt for smoother, cheaper, more familiar paths. How might one convince these industries of the importance of choosing different strategies and design outcomes for the greater good of the planet and those who inhabit it?

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

Find out at our next Crash Course webinar on March 30th! Presenting will be industrial designers Lauryn Menard and Baillie Mishler, co-founders of PROWL Studio, a design consultancy that provides sustainable solutions and strategic foresight based on better use of design and materials. Lauryn and Baillie will not only discuss the need for change and why that is so important, but they’ll use their experiences to arm you with advocacy touch points aimed at promoting awareness and communicating the value of more sustainable design decisions.

Some key takeaways will include:

– Resources. There is a lot of information out there; PROWL will share their top suggestions to get you started.

– Actionability. How to distill large, complex issues into digestible and actionable items to focus on.

– Find Your Niche. It’s okay to start small. Gain alliances with peers to defend your points, and recognize that you don’t have to solve it all.

– Make Change Where You Can. While materials and processes are key, tangible product change can happen at any point in the development process. Consider the marketing of the product, the packaging, shipping, its end-of-life…

– Pull, Don’t Push. Bring your client and partners along. Tailor to your audience, allowing them to feel included in the journey, rather than having information just thrown at them.

Note: Lauryn and Baillie are serving as the Jury Captains for the Sustainability Prize in the 2022 Core77 Design Awards. Find out more about this special prize on the Core77 Design Awards site.

The webinar is scheduled for 2PM EST on Wednesday March 30. There will be a 30-45 minute presentation, followed by a 10-15 minute Q&A session. Registered attendees will have access to the video after the broadcast.
