For those of us who live in a bustling, crowded metropolis, a glittering sky filled with stars is a spectacular sight we rarely get to see. Finnish photographer Oscar Keserci offers us glimpses of these astounding views and tranquil starry nights. His breathtaking images showcase dark skies fully illuminated by millions of brilliant celestial points.
Keserci is a self-taught photographer who grew up in Rhodes, a small Greek island, and moved back to Finland a few years ago. After purchasing his first DSLR camera, he was addicted to capturing the magical moments he witnessed everyday. Keserci uses the natural landscapes as backdrop for his poignant nocturnal images around Kirkkonummi, Finland, as well as from weekend trips and from his yearly visits to Rhodes.
Keserci offers insight to his process, writing, “For night photography I always prefer going alone out. I do that because I need to think ideas and really love testing different things.” He also shares the techniques he uses for his self-portraits. In these pieces, Keserci expresses the solace, enchantment and harmony he feels in being alone with nature. “I used the self-timer on my camera and then I ran to the point I wanted to stand. I must stand as still as I can and the time depends on the shutter speed I have used. If I make any movement I will get blurry.”
